Over the next two weeks, the Beaufort Regional Health System hospital board will be seeking input from BRHS medical staff and the general public regarding the contents of five proposals from four separate institutions seeking to affiliate with the BRHS. A summary of the proposals were presented to the board on Tuesday by representatives from HealthCare Appraisers, Inc.

The first hearing, open to BRHS employees, will be held on Tues. Oct 19 at 6 p.m. in the hospital boardroom. The second hearing is open to the general public, and is scheduled for Wed. Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. in Building 10 at Beaufort County Community College.
Full copies of the five proposals are currently available for review by the public at the Brown Library and the Beaufort-Hyde-Martin Regional Library in Washington. Two summarized versions of the proposals are available in PDF format by clicking the following links: One, which characterizes the bidders and focuses on the financial terms of their bids; and another, which compares the offers' financial terms, employee retention and physician recruitment plans, etc.
The four bidders include Greenville-based University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina; Community Health Systems Inc. of Brentwood, Tenn.; LHP Hospital Group of Plano, Texas; and Brim Healthcare of Brentwood, Tenn.
The BRHS hospital board is intent on strengthening the hospital's financial position as it reviews and negotiates the proposals, a process which could take months, according to BRHS board chairwoman Alice Mills Sadler.
